Eleven family members of suspected Boko Haram fighters have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State as military operations continue to intensify against insurgents in the North-East.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama disclosed that the group, comprising five women and six children, surrendered on June 24 at separate locations in Banki, Bama Local Government Area.
According to him, four women and four children from Chongolo village voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 152 Task Force Battalion, while another woman and two children from Ladantar surrendered to personnel of the 151 Task Force Battalion at Banki Junction.
Preliminary profiling by the military reportedly revealed that the individuals are family members of suspected Boko Haram fighters who fled insurgent enclaves in search of safety.
Following documentation and screening, the surrendered women and children were handed over to the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Bama for further processing and rehabilitation in line with established procedures.
Makama said the latest surrender reflects the growing wave of defections from terrorist camps, which he attributed to sustained military pressure under Operation HADIN KAI.
He added that troops remain on high alert across the North-East as counter-insurgency operations continue against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.
