16 Killed, Several Injured in Tragic Bus Crash on Lokoja-Okene Highway

Following a deadly traffic accident on Kogi State’s Lokoja-Okene highway, sixteen individuals have been officially declared deceased.

Lawal Fagge, the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Kogi State Sector Commander, confirmed the deadly accident in Lokoja over the phone, stating that it happened in Aku village near Osara along the Lokoja-Okene route this Friday morning at around 9:20 a.m.

It concerned a Toyota Hiace bus that was traveling from Jos Plateu State to Lagos and had the registration number BUU 17 ZD.had 22 people on the doomed bus, 21 of them were men and one of whom was a woman.

Fatigue was the cause of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of 16 people, including 15 men and the bus’s lone female passenger. The car was traveling at top speed when it veered off the road and plunged under the bridge.

Six people with varying degrees of injuries were saved when Federal Road Safety Corps officers from Kogi State Command reacted to a distress call right away.

According to the Command, the deceased remains have been placed at the Ankuri morgue in Lokoja, while the injured have been sent to adjacent health facilities in Osara and Specialist Hospital Lokoja for appropriate medical assessment.

The directive exhorts drivers to follow traffic laws and regulations and to be mindful of their safety while traveling.
