A Nigerian man has shared the story of a neighbour whose 16-year-old son allegedly made more than ₦35 million from internet fraud shortly after completing his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams.
The story was shared on X by @prince_dc21_, who claimed that the boy’s sudden wealth caused a serious disagreement between his parents.
According to the post, the teenager had just finished his WAEC when he allegedly made over ₦35 million through what is commonly known in Nigeria as “Yahoo”, a term used to describe internet fraud.
The boy allegedly used some of the money to buy a Spider car and brought it home.
The teenager’s father reportedly became suspicious after seeing the expensive car and questioned his son about where the money came from.
The boy allegedly told his father that he made the money through an online business, but the explanation reportedly did not convince him.
“Immediately his father saw the car, he started asking questions about where the money came from.
“The boy kept telling him it was from ‘online business’ blah blah blah, but the father already suspected that the money was from fraud,” @prince_dc21_ wrote.
The father reportedly ordered his son to return the car and send the money back to its alleged source.
However, the situation reportedly became heated when the boy’s mother questioned why they should give up the money and the car.
She allegedly asked why the family should return the car when they did not even own one before.
The disagreement reportedly became so serious that the father eventually told his son to leave the house, accusing him of no longer listening to him.
The boy’s mother then allegedly said she would leave with their son.
“The father eventually told his son to leave the house since he had apparently grown wings and no longer wanted to listen to him.
“His wife immediately said, ‘If our son is leaving, I’m leaving with him.’
“The man simply replied, ‘No wahala. Here’s the door,’” the post read.
According to the X user, the woman and her son packed their belongings and left the following morning.
He further claimed that nobody in the compound had heard from the mother and son since they left.
“And the father? He said he doesn’t care anymore,” he added.
