The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old girl identified simply as Favour, who later died by suicide.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the suspect, 40, was arrested after a petition alleged that the girl travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, following his invitation to undergo content creation training, which he had reportedly advertised on his social media platforms.
Edafe said the suspect allegedly took Favour to a hotel upon her arrival in Asaba, where he allegedly raped and physically assaulted her.
He said Favour later returned home traumatised and narrated the alleged incident to her parents.
The police spokesperson added that the deceased recorded a video recounting her experience and the emotional distress she suffered after the alleged assault.
According to him, she later died after ingesting a toxic substance despite efforts to save her life.

Edafe said the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to immediately begin a thorough investigation after the petition was received.
He added that detectives arrested Ogbonna during the investigation and that the suspect made useful statements during preliminary interrogation, while further investigation continues to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
Edafe said the Commissioner of Police assured the deceased’s family and the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and that no aspect of the case would be overlooked.
He added that the police commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to conducting a professional investigation and taking appropriate legal action in accordance with the law.
The statement reads, “The Delta State Police Command has arrested Ifeanyi Ogbonna, male, aged 40, also populary known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman, who later died. The arrest followed a petition received by the Command alleging that on 1 June 2026, the deceased travelled to Asaba at the invitation of the suspect, who had offered to train her in content creation, a programme he reportedly promoted through his social media platform.
“Upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence. She later returned home visibly distressed and disclosed the incident to her parents. In the aftermath of the alleged assault, the deceased made a video recording in which she recounted her experience and the emotional distress she suffered following the incident. She subsequently commited suicide by ingesting a toxic substance and later died despite efforts to save her life.
“Upon receipt of the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, directed the Area Command Effurun to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations. Acting on the directive, operatives of the Command swiftly commenced an investigation, leading to the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, also known as “Odogwu of Asaba.” During the preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to the Police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has assured the family of the deceased and the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and that no aspect of the allegations will be overlooked. He further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that the investigation is conducted professionally and that appropriate legal action is taken in accordance with the law.”
