Mixed reactions have trailed the donation of 100 bags of rice by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Ajibola Basiru, to the Osogbo Federal Constituency Governorship Campaign Committee ahead of the August 15 election.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Basiru described the donation as “support machinery” for APC candidate Mr Bola Oyebamiji.
Basiru said the donation was received on behalf of the committee by Chairman Rt. Hon. Akintunde Adegboye.
He noted that the gesture forms part of ongoing efforts to mobilise support, strengthen grassroots engagement, and boost the campaign machinery of Oyebamiji ahead of the poll.
The APC national scribe added that the committee, while appreciating the gesture, said the donation would energise party members and supporters across the federal constituency.

Reacting to …, a Facebook user, Adesina Adewale, wrote: “Rice! Rice!! Rice!!! It is unfortunate that food items have become one of the most visible tools of political mobilisation during election seasons. Rather than creating an economy where citizens can afford basic necessities through decent jobs and sustainable livelihoods, politicians often resort to distributing bags of rice as though that is the solution to poverty.

“The real question is not who donated 100 bags of rice, but why so many citizens remain vulnerable enough for such gestures to carry significant political value. Democracy should be driven by policies, competence, and accountability, not by the distribution of food during campaigns.”
Another user, Olatunji Akeem, wrote, “Thank you for your support for the party at the grassroots and all levels of the party structures across the Nation”.
Adewale Al-Adabiy added: “APC and Rice na 5/6. Nigerians are facing different challenges, they are distributing rice for people, and you will still see some were defending nonsense in comment section.
