A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ciroma Almajiri Joseph, has withdrawn from the Kaduna South Senatorial District race ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Joseph, popularly known as Hasken Southern Kaduna, also declared his support for the incumbent lawmaker, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung.
The APC stalwart made this known in a statement dated April 20, 2026, noting that his decision came after extensive consultations with family members, political associates, community leaders, and supporters across the district.
He explained that the move was guided by the need to promote unity within the party and ensure political stability in Southern Kaduna.
Joseph said his withdrawal was driven by patriotism and political maturity, as well as his desire to sustain cohesion within the APC.
“I have decided to step down from my aspiration under the platform of the APC and throw my full support behind the incumbent Distinguished Senator, Sunday Marshall Katung, in his quest for a second term,” he said.
He added that his long-standing relationship with Katung, which spans over three decades, played a significant role in his decision.
The APC chieftain noted that backing the incumbent would help consolidate ongoing development efforts under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.
He cited key projects such as the proposed Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan as part of the reasons for supporting continuity.
Joseph expressed gratitude to his supporters across Southern Kaduna for their loyalty and encouragement throughout his political journey.
He assured them of his continued commitment to the development of the region despite stepping down from the race.
He also called on his supporters to align with his decision by supporting Katung’s second-term bid.
According to him, this would ensure sustained representation and accelerated development in the senatorial district.
Joseph reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, pledging to remain active within the party and continue his humanitarian and philanthropic activities across Southern Kaduna.
