The All Progressives Grand Alliance has announced plans to deploy the Option A4 voting system for its primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, as part of efforts to boost transparency and curb electoral malpractice within the party.
Speaking at a South-East stakeholders’ meeting in Awka, Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, said the move is designed to eliminate rigging, reduce vote-buying, and strengthen credibility in the party’s internal processes.
He made it clear that the upcoming primaries would follow stricter rules, warning members against treating party politics as a profit-driven venture. According to him, the Option A4 system—where supporters physically align behind their preferred candidates—will make it harder to manipulate outcomes.
Soludo also cautioned aspirants against pursuing multiple political ambitions at once, stressing that such behaviour weakens governance and discipline within the party. He added that aspirants would no longer be allowed to visit party executives privately for inducement, directing that all engagements be conducted at official party venues.
The party’s National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, reinforced the reform agenda, unveiling new guidelines aimed at aligning party processes with the Electoral Act. These include digital membership registration, direct primaries, the adoption of Option A4, and the unbundling of nomination forms.
Ezeokenwa explained that aspirants must first obtain an Expression of Interest form and pass screening before proceeding to purchase nomination forms. He also stated that party officials wishing to back any aspirant must resign their positions to ensure neutrality.
In his remarks, the state chairman, Ifeatu Obiokoye, praised stakeholders for their unity, while South-East National Vice Chairman, Augustine Ehiemere, described the party as a leading political force in the region.
The adoption of Option A4 signals a significant shift in APGA’s internal electoral approach as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
