Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has stated that despite dissenting voices, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will carry the day at the Presidential Primary Elections, scheduled to hold tomorrow (Saturday).
While he argued that apart from the work that the president is doing, which speaks for him, he explained that the performance of the president, his commitment, patriotism, and inclusive nature of governance also speak in the favor of Tinubu.
Senator Akume, who gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen shortly on arrival at the Makurdi Airport, on Friday, ahead of the presidential primary election, also said, the vision of the founding fathers of the party is to ensure that there were no factions within the APC.
The SGF, who was optimistic that members of the party would vote massively for Tinubu, during the primaries, also stated that the APC would ensure that the party remains one united party.
Akume, who warned against manipulation of elections, stressed that there are consequences for every action, and added that at the appropriate time the people will react.
The SGF, said “I am basically here (Benue), because the presidential primaries are taking place tomorrow (Saturday). We are here to mobilize support for our dear president. He (Tinubu) is doing very well. I have told him repeatedly, that he has no problem in Benue state.
“In this country, his performance, commitment, patriotism, inclusive nature of governance also speaks in his favor.
“In democracy you must always have some opposing voices but the
truth is that his (Tinubu’s) work is remarkable. His work has been approved by most Nigerians and we are very sure come tomorrow our people are going to vote massively for Mr President.”
Asked to comment on the outcome of the National and State Assemblies elections that were held in Benue, Senator Akume, said, “I was not here during the last election. I received so many reports about diversion of materials and other things, but I wasn’t here so I don’t want to comment so much about that.
“What I want to say is this: I want the APC, to be a united family; this was how we intended it to be. Those of us who were the founding fathers of the party we don’t want factions in our party. We are very sure that come 2027 Mr President will get back to the villa.
“I just want to appeal to our supporters in Benue state to remain calm and to come out en mass to vote for the primaries for our presidential candidates.”
On his expectations for the presidential primary election to be held tomorrow, Akume said, “This election I believe is going to be different. I want to believe and very strongly too, that there will be no diversion of materials and this is very important, I have seen elections before I’ve been in this game for a long time since 1998 and i want to say that I’m always very very sure of what I say.
“I believe so much in our people and in the fact that they are good; they are resilient and know what is right and if you are not careful, at the appropriate time they will tell you there are consequences”, he warned.
On his part, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr Joseph Utsev, was of the opinion that despite the outcry within the APC, the party would always find a way round the issues.
Therefore, he called on members of the party members to come out en masse and participate in the primaries on Saturday. End
