A former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has formally secured the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that Malami announced his decision in a statement issued on Saturday via his social media platforms, citing worsening insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare, declining educational standards, and economic hardship as reasons for joining the race.
The former justice minister said he could no longer remain silent while residents of the state continue to face what he described as deepening hardship and governance failure.
Malami alleged that Kebbi State is currently facing one of the country’s worst humanitarian and governance crises.
According to him, alarming statistics on education, poverty, healthcare and insecurity reveal the scale of the challenges confronting the state.
He claimed that more than 67 per cent of children between the ages of six and 15 are out of school, while over 88 per cent of children reportedly live in multidimensional poverty.

The former minister also raised concerns about the healthcare sector, noting that maternal mortality remains high across the state.
He further lamented that many rural communities lack access to quality antenatal care and other essential healthcare services.
Speaking on insecurity, Malami said several communities across the state continue to suffer attacks from bandits and kidnappers.
According to him, the worsening security situation has forced many farmers to abandon their farmlands, while businesses now operate under fear and uncertainty.
The ADC governorship aspirant accused the current administration of failing to address residents’ suffering despite growing economic and security challenges.
He said government priorities had been misplaced at a time when citizens were struggling with hardship and insecurity.
Malami Declares ‘State of Emergency On Misgovernance’
Declaring what he described as a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance” in Kebbi State, Malami promised to focus on restoring security, improving education and strengthening healthcare delivery if elected governor in 2027.
Malami stated that his ambition is driven by service, accountability and sustainable development, insisting that the era of ineffective leadership and propaganda must end.
He called on residents of Kebbi State to support what he described as a collective mission to rebuild the state into a safer and more prosperous society.
“There will be no retreat and no surrender in the collective struggle to rescue our state,” he declared.
