2027: Ex-Labour Leader and ADC Governorship Aspirant in Enugu State, Engr Dr Chris Okonkwo joins NDC

Former President -General of the Senior/Management Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, Engr. Dr. Christopher Ndubuisi Okonkwo has formally resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In his letter of resignation dated 1st May 2026 and addressed to the ADC Amurri ward chairman, Nkanu West LGA, copied National Chairman ADC, delivered via emails and other channels, stated that the decision has not been taken lightly.

 “After careful reflection, I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer continue but to withdraw my membership of the party (ADC). This is as a result of personal reasons and legal circumstance of the party at national level ” the letter stated.

It will be recalled that Dr. Okonkwo,  on 17th April 2026, at Royal Palace Hotel Enugu, formally declared his intention to run for the office of governor of Enugu State.

.

At the declaration, he stated that he was set to enter into a one-tenure (four years) compact with the citizens of Enugu, to deliver massive and visible transformation across all sectors, especially health, education, agriculture, and security, unlike what is currently being experienced in the state, where the leadership is wasteful and focused on appearing good on the outside rather than giving the people welfare and enduring service.

He assured Ndi Enugu that he would connect them to their government that should be accountable to them instead of focusing on the elite of the state,  while the regular citizens suffered.
