The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has elected Bala Mohammed as its new national chairman.
Mohammed, a former national organising secretary of the party, was elected as the NNPP’s national chairman following the resignation of Ajuji Ahmed.
In a statement issued by the party’s national publicity secretary, Ladipo Johnson, Ahmed who was appointed as NNPP’s acting national chairman in March 2024 recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
However, describing Mohammed as “an astute administrator” from Kaduna, Johnson said the new national chairman will take up his role with a wealth of experience, tactical brilliance, and unwavering commitment to the party’s grassroots ideology.
Further expressing concerns about developments in Nigeria’s polity, Johnson said the nation’s democracy is under attack.
He also warned that the biting hardship, insecurity and rising inflation have plunged the nation into a difficult moment.
Johnson alleged that there has been a series of sponsored internal crises targeted at the NNPP with the aim of instilling fear among members of the opposition.
He, however, said the NNPP and its leadership remain optimistic that the newly appointed national chairman would steer the party’s affairs to the benefit of all.
“We are witnessing a coordinated assault on the foundations of our democracy.
“Our democracy is under attack, but the NNPP remains a sanctuary for the hopes of the common man,” Johnson said.
