The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to be facing an unprecedented political setback in Kebbi State after its name was found absent from the list of political parties and candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 governorship election.
The development marks what could be the first time in more than two decades that the opposition party has failed to feature prominently in preparations for a major election in the state.
The list, seen by our correspondent and confirmed which, contains the names, political parties and credentials of governorship candidates and other contestants seeking to participate in the 2027 general elections.

Governor Nasir Idris is listed as the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Chika Malami, is listed as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Other candidates on the list include Basiru Musa of the Zenith Labour Party and Umar Usman Besse of the NDC, alongside candidates from other political parties, including the AA, SDP and APM.
The publication also contains details of candidates seeking seats in the State House of Assembly, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Efforts to reach the Kebbi State PDP Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo, for comments were unsuccessful as his telephone line could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
However, investigations indicate that the party’s absence from the list may not be unconnected with the prolonged internal crisis that has affected the PDP at different levels in the state.
The party has also suffered a series of defections, with several prominent members and political figures joining the APC and ADC, further weakening its political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
With the PDP missing from the emerging contest, the 2027 governorship race in Kebbi State is beginning to take a new shape, with the APC and ADC expected to play prominent roles in what may become one of the state’s most closely watched political battles.
