The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has extended by three days the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
A statement issued by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, on Sunday, said the extension followed a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC.
According to the Commission, the submission window, which was due to close on Saturday, July 11, 2026, will now remain open until midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
IPAC had appealed on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates’ details within the original deadline.
INEC explained that the decision was aimed at giving all political parties a fair opportunity to meet the requirements of the electoral timetable while remaining fully compliant with the provisions of the law.
“The extension underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity in its practices, while acting within the ambit of the law,” the statement said.
INEC urged political parties to take advantage of the additional three-day window to conclude the submission of their candidates’ names and personal particulars through its designated portal before the revised deadline.
The Commission, however, cautioned that no further extension would be granted, advising parties to complete the process without delay to avoid last-minute technical or administrative difficulties.
Submission of candidates marks a critical stage in the implementation of INEC’s Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.
