2027: Sule Defends Support for Preferred Successor Ahead of APC Primaries

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has said he has both constitutional and democratic rights to support any aspirant he considers capable of sustaining the state’s development progress.

Sule made this known during a statewide broadcast in Lafia on Friday, where he also announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would adopt direct primaries to select its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He explained that the decision was reached by key stakeholders of the party to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all aspirants.

“As Governor of Nasarawa State and leader of our great party in the state, I have exercised my constitutional and democratic right to support and endorse an aspirant whom I believe possesses the capacity, experience and vision to consolidate on the gains we have collectively made,” he said.

The governor stressed that his endorsement would not stop other aspirants from contesting in the primaries.

“Importantly, this does not foreclose the opportunities that exist in direct primary elections, which our party’s critical stakeholders have opted for.

“Let me once more restate for the record that as a leader of the state, I will ensure a credible contest,” he added.

Sule urged members of the APC, supporters of other political parties, youths, and community leaders to remain peaceful as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

He warned against hate speech, intimidation, and the spread of false information among politicians and their supporters.

“No ambition is greater than the peace, unity and progress of our dear State,” the governor said.

“At the end of the primaries and elections, we shall all remain a very big family bound by a common destiny and united by our love for Nasarawa State.”

Sule also called on security agencies to remain professional and neutral before, during, and after the elections, while urging youths not to allow themselves to be used to incite violence.

He noted that consultations and political engagements ahead of the 2027 elections have already begun across various political blocs in the state.
