The Coalition of Women Christians in Politics has pledged to mobilise voters in support of the All Progressives Congress,APC, following the retention of Vice President Kashim Shettima as the party’s vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The pledge was made on Thursday during a meeting of the Tinubu-Shettima Continuity Forum in Maiduguri, where participants described Shettima’s retention as a demonstration of continuity, stability and commitment to national development.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Mrs Zainab Ahmed said the group would intensify grassroots mobilisation and encourage eligible Nigerians to obtain and use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during future elections.
“We are fully committed to supporting the APC and ensuring that our members actively participate in the electoral process. We will mobilise at all levels to secure victory for the party,” she said.
The event attracted political leaders, government officials, academics, youth groups and APC supporters, who expressed confidence in the leadership of the vice president and reaffirmed their support for the ruling party.
In his remarks, the convener of the forum, Umar M. Abatcha, said the gathering was not only a celebration but also a reaffirmation of commitment to good governance, party unity and sustained political engagement.
Participants also acknowledged the contributions of Dr Usman Mohammed Shettima, Grand Patron of the forum and Senior Special Assistant on Office Coordination to the Vice President, commending his support for the group.
The Chairman of the occasion and APC Chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Babakura Shettima, urged young people to remain actively involved in the democratic process, saying their participation was vital to Nigeria’s development.
Also speaking, Prof. Shehu Mustapha Liberty of the University of Maiduguri called for greater youth participation in governance, while Prof. Shettima Bukar Kullima stressed the need for party unity and strategic planning ahead of future elections.
The programme also featured cultural performances showcasing the heritage of Borno State and the inauguration of new executives of the Tinubu-Shettima Continuity Forum, with Abatcha unveiled as coordinator.
Participants concluded the event by renewing their support for the APC and expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
