At least 24 pupils have died after a bus carrying students on a school excursion crashed in eastern Uganda.
The victims were pupils of King David Junior School in Kampala, who were returning from an educational trip to the popular Sipi Falls when the accident occurred.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the crash happened along the Kaserem section of the Kapchorwa–Mbale Road after the driver reportedly lost control of the bus.
Several pupils and adults sustained serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Three of the injured pupils later died, bringing the death toll to 24.
In response to the tragedy, the Ugandan government announced the indefinite suspension of all school excursions and educational trips nationwide.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, while President Yoweri Museveni and other government officials extended their condolences to the families of the victims.
