A 4.6-magnitude earthquake hit Iran’s capital, Tehran, on Tuesday, according to Iranian state media. Officials said the quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The tremors were felt in areas between Tehran and Mazandaran Province. People in nearby towns also reported feeling the shaking.
Were There Any Injuries or Damage?
There were no immediate reports of deaths, injuries or serious damage after the earthquake. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB said that, one hour after the tremor, no major financial losses had been recorded.
Red Crescent emergency teams in Tehran, Mazandaran, Qom Province and Alborz Province were placed on alert after the quake.
Residents in Boomehen city, near the earthquake’s epicentre in Tehran province, gathered in the streets after the Tuesday night tremor, according to IRIB.
Earlier this year, on 3 March, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Gerash region in southern Iran.
Is There Any Link to Nuclear Testing?
Some social media users questioned whether the earthquake could be linked to nuclear testing. However, there is no official evidence to support these claims.
