500 km range, 225 kg warhead and…: Ukraine set to get new lethal secret weapon, bad news for Putin, weapon not developed by US or Germany, country is…

Britain has successfully tested a new generation of long-range strike weapons that could soon be supplied to Ukraine within months. The new systems are designed to be cheaper, faster to produce, and easier to manufacture compared to existing missiles like Storm Shadow.

According to a report by The Independent, the weapons, developed under a programme known as “Project Brakestop,” are capable of hitting targets at distances of at least 500 km and can carry a 225 kg warhead. These systems were recently test-fired at a range in the Hebrides, with further trials planned in the coming months.

What makes these new weapons different?

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) set strict requirements for companies involved in the project. The weapons must travel at speeds over 600 km per hour, cost around £400,000 per unit, and be produced at a rate of at least 20 units per month once ordered.

How quickly is the UK developing them?

Out of 27 industry proposals, six companies initially received contracts worth about £5 million each. After several months of rapid development and testing, only three firms remain in the programme: MBDA UK, MGI Engineering, and Rotron Aerospace. The second phase has now begun with follow-on contracts worth £15 million to refine the systems further.

Will Ukraine get these weapons soon?

Officials hope the systems could be ready for Ukraine within a year, following additional overseas testing, including possible trials in Ukraine itself. Minor technical issues were observed during early tests, but these are expected in fast-track development projects.

UK Armed Forces Minister Louise Sandher-Jones said the programme shows Britain’s ability to rapidly build advanced defence systems while reducing reliance on US regulations and boosting sovereign capability.

She added that the weapons would complement existing systems like Storm Shadow missiles, helping Ukraine strike deeper targets at lower cost.

The UK government also reaffirmed its long-term support for Ukraine, as Western allies continue to strengthen Kyiv’s air defence and battlefield capabilities amid ongoing conflict with Russia.
