No fewer than 500 Northern Nigerian women Ulamas and Islamic scholars have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections.
The women made the declaration in a communiqué issued at the end of their engagement meeting in Kaduna on Sunday.
The meeting, organised under the Muslim Intellectuals Forum, comprised 25 women Da’wah preachers groups from Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The communiqué was read by Aisha Tukur from Jigawa at the meeting attended by some northern governors and political leaders.
Participants deliberated on Islam, national development, good governance, security, education, economy and Nigeria’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
They were also briefed on the philosophy, objectives and aspirations of the Muslim Intellectuals Forum as a platform for constructive engagement.
The women welcomed the initiative and resolved to establish a women’s chapter of the forum with an appropriate leadership structure.
The meeting reviewed the performance of the Federal Government under Tinubu through presentations supported by facts, images and illustrations.
Participants particularly acknowledged interventions in education, security, infrastructure and economic development under the Tinubu administration.
They commended the establishment and implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, as an intervention aimed at expanding access to tertiary education.
The participants noted that about 70 per cent of NELFUND beneficiaries were from Northern Nigeria.
They also acknowledged efforts to address insecurity through additional military formations, equipment procurement and recruitment of additional security personnel.
The women said the interventions demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing challenges confronting Nigerians, particularly communities across Northern Nigeria.
They commended Tinubu’s administration and urged it to sustain and expand programmes addressing security, education, infrastructure, employment and economic development.
The participants welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to consultation and dialogue, and urged Tinubu to institutionalise regular engagement with stakeholders.
They said regular consultations with Ulamas, traditional rulers, community leaders, women, youths and professionals would strengthen public confidence in government.
They said another term would provide an opportunity to complete important projects and deepen reforms in security, education, economic development and national prosperity.
The women reaffirmed their commitment to constructive engagement, peaceful democratic participation, national unity and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, security and prosperity.
They expressed appreciation to the governors of Kaduna, Yobe, Borno Jigawa States for participating in the engagement.
The participants also commended Gombe Governor and Chairman, Northern States Governors’ Forum, Inuwa Yahaya, for attending the meeting.
They appreciated former governors of Katsina and Zamfara states for honouring their invitation and participating in the engagement.
The women commended Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, for his commitment and contributions to the engagement.
The participants prayed for continued peace, security and prosperity in Nigeria, while reaffirming their readiness to support democratic and national development efforts.
