The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has strongly condemned the arrest of Senator Aminu Tambuwal by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing it as a politically motivated effort to silence opposition voices.
Tambuwal, a former Sokoto governor and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, was detained by the EFCC on Monday over alleged {financial} irregularities throughout his time in workplace.
In a press release launched early Tuesday, August 12, and signed by PDP’s Publicity Secretary Hassan Sanyinnawal, the get together claimed the arrest is a part of a broader technique by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal authorities to intimidate opponents and weaken the rising resistance to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“The so-called investigation is nothing more than a fishing expedition, revived from an old phantom case that has failed to produce evidence in the past,” the assertion stated.

“It is the handiwork of political actors in Sokoto and Abuja who are desperate to smear Tambuwal’s enviable image and force him to abandon his stand against misrule.”
The PDP maintained that Tambuwal’s tenure was characterised by fiscal duty and transparency, accusing the EFCC of selective enforcement by overlooking “genuine corruption cases” involving members of the ruling get together.
The get together urged anti-corruption companies to behave impartially and known as on Sokoto residents and its supporters to remain calm but agency in demanding true democracy and good governance.
“Our trust in Tambuwal’s integrity cannot be shaken by politically motivated probes,” the assertion concluded.
