A former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has formally declared his intention to contest for the place of National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Lamido made the announcement in a press release posted on his verified Facebook web page on Monday, saying he would go to the celebration’s nationwide secretariat in Abuja to buy his nomination type.
“By the grace of God, I shall today, Monday, 27th October 2025, by 11 a.m., be at Wadata Plaza, the national headquarters of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to purchase the nomination form to run for the office of National Chairman,” Lamido wrote.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his dedication to rebuilding and strengthening the PDP forward of the 2027 common elections, stressing that his “resolve to restore the party to its old glory is unstoppable.”
Lamido’s declaration comes because the PDP prepares to elect new nationwide officers at its elective nationwide conference scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The contest for the highest celebration place is already heightening inside tensions, following an earlier endorsement of former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) because the northern consensus candidate. However, Lamido and a faction loyal to former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, have rejected Turaki’s endorsement, insisting the method lacked correct session.

During its 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) assembly held on August 25 in Abuja, the PDP resolved to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, whereas reserving the place of National Chairman for the North.
In preparation for the conference, the PDP on October 25 named a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee chaired by Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), a former Ondo State governorship candidate, to vet aspirants for nationwide places of work. The screening is scheduled to carry on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
Lamido’s entry into the race is predicted to additional reshape inside alignments inside the opposition celebration, as stakeholders jostle for affect forward of the conference and the 2027 polls.
