Abducted General Rabe Abubakar Dies In Bandits’ Captivity

The Katsina State Government has confirmed the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in bandits’ captivity, describing the incident as a tragic loss to both the state and the nation.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu.

According to the statement, the retired senior military officer died from complications linked to diabetes and hypertension while being held by his abductors. It added, “The deceased retired general died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension.”

The government said that despite sustained efforts by the state administration and security agencies to secure his release, the situation ended in tragedy.

Mu’azu noted that the abduction and eventual death of the retired general was not only a painful loss to his family and Katsina State, but also a significant loss to the country.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, also expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a dark moment for the state and a painful reminder of the prevailing security challenges.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul.

Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Federal Government and security agencies to tackle banditry and other forms of criminality across the state.

He assured residents that efforts would be intensified to ensure those responsible for the abduction are brought to justice, while also pledging continued determination to restore peace and security in Katsina State.

The governor also urged citizens to support security agencies with credible information and cooperation in the fight against insecurity.

The development highlights the ongoing security crisis in parts of northern Nigeria, where armed bandit groups continue to carry out kidnappings and attacks despite sustained military operations.
