The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Abia State, Doris Ogala, has been hospitalised after she reportedly collapsed during a political consultation in the state.
The actress-turned-politician disclosed the development on Friday night, revealing that she was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, after losing consciousness.
She, however, assured her supporters that her condition had improved following medical attention.
In a message shared on her social media page, she said, “I was rushed to FMC Umuahia. I lost consciousness. Glory to God, I am stabilised now.”
The incident has generated concern among her supporters and members of her political camp, coming at a time when preparations for the next governorship election in Abia State are gathering momentum.
A video that surfaced online showed Ogala in a wheelchair being moved around the hospital by a nurse after she was stabilised. During the visit, she interacted with patients and members of staff and later held a brief prayer session for those receiving treatment at the facility.
While addressing the patients, she prayed for healing and divine intervention, asking God to restore everyone battling one form of illness or another. She also prayed that those on admission would recover and have testimonies to share.
As of the time of filing this report, the AAC candidate had not released further details about the cause of the health scare. There was also no official confirmation that she had been discharged from the hospital.
POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Ogala recently emerged as the AAC governorship candidate for the Abia election. She is expected to face a crowded field that includes incumbent Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party, Eric Opah of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kelechi Anosike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other contenders.
