The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa, has dismissed the rumour that its 21 newly inaugurated Local Government Council Chairmen would defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP State Chairman, Belmont Dogo, made the clarification on Wednesday in Yola shortly after the inauguration of the council chairmen and councillors.
Dogo described the rumour as politically motivated, circulated by the opposition following the party’s victory in the June 15 council polls in the state.
“Adamawa has remained a PDP stronghold since 1999, except for a period when the APC controlled the state before we regained power.
“The state will continue to be controlled by the PDP despite the defection of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri to the APC.
“There is no indication that any of the newly elected council chairmen intends to leave the PDP,” he said..
Dogo said he has not received any information suggesting that the council chairmen planned to defect to the APC.
According to him, the speculation stems from the fact that the APC currently controls both the federal and state governments.
“The rumour that I am working covertly for the APC is also false.
“I am a bona fide PDP member and will remain in the party even if I am the only member left in the state,” he said.
He expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, citing its longstanding presence and support base in Adamawa.
“The party’s Vice Presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, Alhaji Babangida Modibbo is from Adamawa.
“We are confident that voters in the state would support their own son,” he said. (NAN)
