Former presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remains the African Democratic Congress, ADC’s strongest chance of winning the 2027 presidential election.
Onochie, who served as media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, said Atiku possesses the political structure, national reach and experience needed to lead the ADC into the general election.
She stated this ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled to hold on Monday.
According to her, the ADC must look beyond sentiment and choose a candidate with the capacity to win power and govern effectively.
Onochie said politics was not an award for effort, but a contest of preparedness, capacity, national spread and the ability to deliver victory.
“As ADC prepares for its 2027 Presidential Primary, members must ask one question above all else: Who gives ADC the strongest opportunity to win Nigeria and govern successfully?” she said.
“For many party faithful, the answer is clear: H.E. Atiku Abubakar.”
She said the former Vice President brings experience, national acceptance, coalition-building capacity, economic understanding and political resilience to the race.
Onochie added that if the ADC wants to make history in 2027, its members must support a candidate with national scale and tested political endurance.
“If ADC desires not simply to make history but to win history, then members must choose a candidate with national scale, tested endurance and the capacity to convert aspiration into government,” she said.
She described the presidential primary as only the first stage of the battle, adding that the real mission is the general election.
“The Primary is the contest. The General Election is the mission. The Presidency is the destination,” Onochie said.
