Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has won a N30 million damages award in a defamation case against Google over online publications that falsely linked her romantically to former senator Dino Melaye.
The judgment was delivered by the Lagos High Court, which ruled that the publications were false and amounted to a violation of her rights, ordering Google to remove the content from its platforms.
Ade disclosed the victory via Instagram, sharing court documents and writing: “Not every battle needs a response. Some need a courtroom. Unto the next.”
The case, filed in 2024, concerned articles that the court found wrongly associated her name and image with defamatory claims, causing emotional and psychological distress.
The court also ordered Google to delete the offending publications and expunge her name and photographs from the content.
Ade had initially sought N100 million in damages but was awarded N30 million by the court.
