The Management of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has introduced an Identification (I.D) Card System for relatives staying with patients on admission.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Abdurrahman Abba-Sheshe, who announced the new policy, said it is aimed to ensure proper identification of patients’ relatives and to enhance security, control and monitoring within the hospital environment.
This is contained in a statement by the hospital’s Chief Information Officer, Maryam Aminu-Usman, on Wednesday.

He said each admitted patient is entitled to one designated caregiver to whom the I.D card will be issued, stressing that in the event of a change in duty, the card will be handed over to the next caregiver.
The Management also urges the public to avoid visiting the hospital in large groups or with young children, as they are more vulnerable to contracting infectious diseases.
The CMD explained that overcrowding and congestion in the wards during visiting hours seriously disturb patients’ rest and recovery, and compromise infection control measures.
The Management further calls on the public to strictly adhere to Visiting Time as officially scheduled according to days of the week, weekends and Public Holidays. (NAN)
