A video of a Ghanaian tourist touring St. Paul’s Cathedral in Côte d’Ivoire, one of the largest cathedrals in West Africa, has sparked conversation online after he drew a pointed comparison to Ghana’s own long-stalled National Cathedral project.
In the clip, the visitor and his companions are seen posing in front of the towering structure, marveling at its scale and architecture as they explored the grounds.
While reflecting on the sight, he remarked that this was the kind of cathedral former President Akufo-Addo had envisioned building in Ghana with an estimated $58 million, a project that has instead stalled for years amid funding troubles and public criticism. “Unfortunately, ours has fallen into the mud,” he said, before adding that he hopes progress resumes “when Bawumia comes to power.”
The comment quickly caught the attention of viewers, many of whom weighed in on the contrast between the completed Ivorian cathedral and Ghana’s own unfinished site, which has remained a subject of heated debate since construction began.
Others focused on the remark about Bawumia, sparking further discussion given his political standing.
