A Nigerian legal analyst at the World Bank Group, Vivian Irondi, has sparked debate on social media after sharing her views on marriage and the qualities women should prioritize in a life partner.
In a Facebook post published on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Irondi argued that since disappointment can occur in any relationship, women should choose partners who are financially secure and have self-respect.
According to her, while no marriage is without challenges, financial stability can help ease some of the pressures that come with raising a family.
“All men will disappoint you. So, if you’re going to deal with one and get married to him, my dear sister, please deal with one that has a lot of money and respect for himself,” she wrote.
She added that marriage often becomes more demanding over time, particularly after children and other family responsibilities come into the picture.
“Marriage doesn’t get easier. It gets more difficult with children and family responsibilities,” she added.
Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions online. While some users agreed that financial stability is an important consideration in marriage, others argued that mutual love, trust, character and compatibility should take precedence over wealth alone.
