A member of House of Representatives for Oyi and Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Anambra State, Hon Chinwe Maureen Gwacham has organized an on-going a free medical eye treatment/surgery. Over 2,000 people received free eye treatment in the state.

The medical outreach by Gwacham was in collaboration with Vision Savers Eye Care Center which focuses on providing free eye care services including cataract surgeries, eye test and treatment as well as distribution of medical glasses to patients in need.

According to Gwacham, it was a 5 days free eye medical outreach which took effect on 8th to 12th of May, 2026 at Solution General Hospital, Anaku in Ayamelum Local Government and Primary Health Center Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government both in Anambra State respectively.

Gwacham expressed concern on the overwhelming turnout of beneficiaries from different communities across Ayamelum and Oyi Local Government Areas as the first day recorded a remarkable success as over 2,000 people.
They were well attended to by the qualified medical professionals and eye care specialists for the outreach.

She stated that the medical team carried out more than 20 successful eye surgeries, while several other patients were scheduled for further examinations and treatment sessions billed for subsequent days of the programme.

The atmosphere at the venue reflected hope, gratitude, and excitement as beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the rare opportunity to access quality healthcare services free of charge and Many elderly patients who had struggled with vision-related challenges for years described the outreach as timely, impactful, and life-changing.

Gwacham however reaffirmed her commitment to initiatives that directly improve the welfare and wellbeing of the people, emphasizing that accessible healthcare remains a vital part of community development.

Among the beneficiary who had a successful medical eye surgeries includes Egwuchukwu Nweke from Ukpambaka Umerum who in appreciation, thanked Hon Gwacham and named her (Savior of the helpless) and pray God for her successful political journey.

Others were , Ukpambaka Umerum and Obiageli Ndukaife from Ayigo, Umerum, Hon Christian Nwakaeze from Nteje, Chinweokwu Mokwugwo from Awkuzu, Polina Ejike from Omor, Obiorah Okwunwanne from Anaku, Kate Nweke from Awkuzu, Mrs Okwunze from Ogbunike , Elder Emeka Nzenyi from Ogbunike among others.
