The Anambra Skilled Ladies Training Programme has empowered 100 young women with technical and entrepreneurial skills, the Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has said.
Soludo expressed satisfaction with the performance of participants in the first batch of the initiative, noting that the programme had fostered self-reliance and sparked what she described as an “entrepreneurial rebirth” among the beneficiaries.
The programme, launched in March, is a vocational scheme designed to equip women across the state with skills in professions traditionally dominated by men.
Implemented under her Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, the training aims to dismantle long-standing professional stereotypes while providing participants with high-demand technical expertise for economic empowerment.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, the First Lady said the five-week intensive practical sessions had significantly impacted the trainees, adding that the structure of the programme combines hands-on learning with an entrepreneurial support package.
She described the initiative as a “game changer,” stressing that it has positioned the women to compete and excel in technical fields.
“It’s been five weeks of intensive practical classes for the ‘Anambra Skilled Ladies Programme’. What thrills me most about this novel exercise is the passion, dedication and meticulousness that these amazing ladies have invested in every task, however daunting,” she said.
Soludo further noted that the participants had shown strong commitment throughout the training, expressing confidence in their readiness to transition into the workforce.
“I am pleased with how far we have come in this great vision. Soon, these ladies — who began this journey out of sheer passion — would be graduating with the kind of quality and experience that will transform their lives forever.
“The future is bright on this side. These women are the real changemakers,” she added.
The training covers four key areas: solar and CCTV installation and repairs, air conditioning repair and maintenance, tricycle (keke) repair, and painting, all aimed at bridging the employment gap and enhancing women’s participation in technical sectors.
