US President Donald Trump is reportedly thinking more seriously about taking stronger military action against Iran as talks between the two countries continue to struggle.
According to a CNN report quoting people familiar with internal discussions, Trump has become increasingly frustrated with Iran’s approach during negotiations. Tensions have also grown around the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for global oil supplies.
Sources told CNN that some members of Trump’s team now believe he is more open to restarting major military operations than he was in recent weeks.
What Has Frustrated Trump During the Talks?
Trump has publicly criticised Iran, accusing its leaders of changing their position during negotiations.
Speaking to reporters, he claimed Iran had backed away from an earlier understanding linked to enriched uranium. He said Iranian officials “change their mind” whenever progress is made in the talks.
Trump also spoke about divisions inside Iran’s leadership, saying there are “moderates” and “lunatics” within the government. He added that the “moderates are dying to make a deal.”
The US President further claimed he has “the best plan ever” to end the conflict and dismissed Iran’s latest counterproposal as “simply unacceptable.”
He also said he was “very disappointed in the Kurds” while discussing efforts to arm people inside Iran.
According to CNN, Trump reportedly described Iran’s latest response as both “totally unacceptable” and “stupid”, increasing doubts within parts of his administration about whether Tehran is serious about negotiations.

The CNN report said officials inside the Trump administration are divided over what to do next.
Some advisers are pushing for a tougher strategy, including targeted military strikes aimed at weakening Tehran further. Others believe diplomacy should continue and are still backing negotiations.
The debate comes as tensions rise around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
What Is Iran Demanding?
According to Reuters, Iran has demanded an end to the war on several fronts, including in Lebanon, where Israel continues operations against the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.
Tehran is also asking for compensation for war damage, an end to the US naval blockade, guarantees against future attacks, and the restart of Iranian oil exports.
Iran has stressed that it maintains sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping traffic has been badly affected in recent weeks.
Reuters reported that while the US wanted fighting to stop before wider nuclear talks could begin, Iran defended its current position on Monday.
How Is The Strait Of Hormuz Being Affected?
Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed sharply compared with levels seen before the conflict intensified.
Data from Kpler and LSEG showed that only three oil tankers carrying crude exited the waterway last week. Reports also said some ships switched off their tracking systems to avoid possible Iranian attacks.
At the same time, the US has imposed new sanctions on individuals and companies accused of helping Iran move oil to China.
Washington said the sanctions are part of wider efforts to limit funding for Iran’s military and nuclear programmes.

Trump is expected to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Iran is expected to be a major topic during the discussions, with Washington hoping China will use its influence to pressure Tehran into reaching an agreement.
