Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has stirred conversations on social media after sharing a humorous piece of advice about choosing business partners, using the long-standing Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo debate as his example.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Bovi suggested that a person’s answer to the famous football question could offer insight into how they reason and make important decisions.
According to the comedian, there is nothing wrong with admiring Cristiano Ronaldo or even considering him the greatest footballer of all time. However, he insisted that the conversation changes when people are asked who the better footballer is between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
He said:
“If you’re going into business with someone you don’t know very well, ask them who the better footballer is between Ronaldo and Messi. If they tell you Ronaldo is the better footballer, pick up your shoes and run.
It means they can take what is true and twist it to fit their own reality. When someone can genuinely believe that, you have to be careful because they can do the same thing in business.”
Bovi went on to explain that, in his opinion, anyone who sincerely believes Ronaldo is the superior footballer despite what he considers clear evidence may also have a tendency to interpret facts in ways that suit their personal views.
Ending the video on a playful note, the comedian joked that viewers should “thank me later and cut me a cheque.”
His lighthearted remarks have once again fueled the never-ending Messi versus Ronaldo rivalry online, with football fans offering mixed reactions as many defended their favourite player while others found Bovi’s business advice amusing.
