Two female aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday emerged as winners in the state House of Assembly primary of the party in Ondo State.
Tomisin Edu Falade and Adeola Fynch won the Akure North constituency and the Akure South Constituency I, respectively.
Stephen Abitogun also won the ticket for Akure South Constituency II on the platform of the party.
Tomisin Edu Falade, who polled 8,700 votes to emerge victorious, described the exercise as peaceful and credible.
She appreciated the party members and voters for their massive turnout and for voting for her.
“This election is beyond controversy. It’s a native election, and we thank God. People came out massively to cast their votes – old, young, women and everyone. We thank God that it was peaceful and calm,” Falade said.
Moreover, she called on her co-aspirants to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, calling for unity within the party ahead of the general elections.
Falade said, “First of all, I want to use this opportunity to thank Mr Governor. He is a peaceful governor, and that is why this election was peaceful from the information around.
“I want to encourage the other aspirants who lost. Please, we should put our hands together and cooperate to make our party move to a greater height in the next election.”
Falade promised impactful representation if her constituents elected her in the general elections.
She said, “By God’s grace, we are going to make a difference. We will make an impact. What has not happened in the past, we will try to make happen in our own time.”
In Akure South, Adeola Fynch described her victory as an honour and a sign of trust from the people of her constituency.
She promised them developmental representation, saying, “It feels good. I’m happy for this honour and the trust bestowed upon me. I thank all my constituency people. They won’t regret this.
“They should expect nothing but quality representation. I have always promised them I will make them proud, and I will put in more effort when I get there.”
Abitogun, who won Akure South Constituency II ticket, a serving lawmaker, appreciated party leaders and supporters for their support.
He described the poll as a peaceful and credible exercise.
Abitogun, who commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for providing good leadership and ensuring a smooth primary process across the state.
He said: “This is a good signal that APC in Ondo State is going to win overwhelmingly in the coming elections, from the presidency to the National Assembly and House of Assembly levels.”
In his remarks, the Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Gbenga Fasua, said the party’s primary process was peaceful and largely based on consensus, which he noted strengthened the party’s unity.
He said the emergence of candidates without internal disputes showed growing cohesion within the party, adding, “The interest and choice of the people prevailed. This unity is what we are taking to the general election, and I know it is going to be a win-win for the party.”
Fasua described the consensus-driven process as unprecedented and would position the APC strongly for future elections.
