An aspirant for the Lere West State Constituency seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Tom Garba, has called for transparency, fairness and internal democracy in the party’s candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mr Garba made the call shortly after submitting his Nomination and Expression of Interest forms at the APC secretariat in Kaduna.
The journalist and online publisher said he remained committed to participating in either direct primaries or a consensus arrangement, provided the process is transparent and acceptable to all stakeholders.
“I have submitted my forms and I am ready for the journey without doubts because we carry the mandate of our people with utmost seriousness and deliberate commitment,” he said.
“As a loyal party man who believes in the APC’s internal democracy, whether through consensus or direct primaries as enshrined in the party constitution, I am ready for any process that will strengthen the party’s chances of producing a credible flagbearer.”
Mr Garba noted that if the party eventually adopts consensus as a strategy to produce a viable and electable candidate, such a decision must be driven by justice, fairness and inclusiveness.
“If our party chooses consensus as the safest way to bring a sellable candidate on board for victory in the election, then it must be a collective decision taken by stakeholders and all aspirants through proper consultation,” he stated.
The aspirant also cautioned politicians against dragging Governor Uba Sani’s name into internal political calculations, insisting that the governor should not be portrayed as imposing candidates on the party.
According to him, Governor Sani remains committed to justice, fairness and party unity in Kaduna State.
“For now, I am prepared for the direct primaries scheduled for May 20 unless otherwise decided by party stakeholders or leaders,” he added.
Mr Garba further reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Uba Sani and APC stakeholders in Lere Local Government Area, expressing confidence that the party would conduct a transparent process capable of producing a credible candidate for victory in the 2027 elections.
