Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has said that Edo State will now become a key area of attention in the push for better treatment and recognition of Ijaw people.
Naijaonpoint reports that he made the statement during the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide Manifesto Presentation and Debate held in Degema, Rivers State, an event linked to Ijaw Youth Council.
Dokubo raised concerns about the situation of Ijaw communities in Edo State, saying their living conditions and treatment need more focus from leaders and stakeholders.
The traditional ruler said attention should now extend beyond Rivers State as part of wider efforts affecting Ijaw people in different parts of the Niger Delta.
He also told members of the group that their mission is based on a clear purpose and should not be treated as entertainment or social activity.
He urged them to stay committed to the goals of the movement and continue pushing for its objectives.
“Our next battleground is Edo State. We cannot allow the Ijaws in Edo State to remain in the condition they are. This organization was not formed for pleasure, was not formed for these sort of things. We did not form this organization for this fine fine things,” Dokubo said.
