The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a “confused” politician and a “voodoo economist” over his renewed criticism of the removal of fuel subsidy by the Bola Tinubu administration.

Wike’s comments come amid a renewed war of words over the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy and how the resulting savings and additional revenues have been utilised.

Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, has repeatedly challenged the Federal Government to account for the financial gains from subsidy removal, most recently demanding a transparent reconciliation of revenues, deductions, savings and transfers that he said could amount to nearly thirty trillion Naira.

But the Minister dismissed the argument, insisting that those questioning the policy were failing to appreciate the financial burden the subsidy had imposed on the country.

He described Mr Atiku’s position as contradictory, accusing the former Vice President of changing his argument on the subsidy and economic reforms.
