August 15: Opposition Parties Back INEC, Police, Express Confidence Ahead Of Poll

Opposition political parties in Osun State have expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission and the state Police Command ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The parties, under the aegis of ‘The Democrats’, expressed this on Friday, during separate courtesy visits to the INEC office and the Police Headquarters in Osogbo.

Speaking at INEC, the Osun Labour Party Chairman, Mustapha Adebayo Muideen, said the visit was to be briefed on the commission’s level of preparation for the poll.

Adebayo noted that as stakeholders and intermediaries between the electoral umpire and voters, the parties needed to be abreast of developments to allay public fears.

At the police headquarters, Assistant Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Waheed Adediran, said the parties were concerned about recent security tensions in the state.

Adediran said they sought assurances that voters would be safe to cast their ballots and exercise their franchise without intimidation during the election.
