The singer shared the update with fans via her Instagram Story on Thursday after concerns grew over her reduced online activity.
According to Ayra Starr, she had anticipated a swift recovery following the procedure but disclosed that the healing process has taken longer than expected because the surgery was more complicated than initially projected.
Addressing her fans, popularly known as Mobstarrs, the singer apologised for her absence and assured them she would return once she had fully recovered.
“Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like. I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected.
“I just need a bit of rest, and I’ll be back!!! Starrgirl is coming so soooon. I need everyone out there spreading the word, tell your friends, your family, your neighbours!!! Order Starrgirl ASAP!!!
“Love you guys,” she wrote.
The award-winning artiste, however, did not disclose the nature of the surgery or the medical condition that necessitated the operation.
Despite taking time off to recover, Ayra Starr continued to promote her forthcoming project, Starrgirl, urging fans to support the release.
In a separate Instagram update, she announced that she had personally autographed copies of the vinyl edition and CD inserts for the project.
“Hey Mobstarrs. I’m signing my first vinyl and CD inserts. Go to shop.ayrastarr.com. Go get your vinyl and your signed CDs,” she said.
Her health update has reassured fans who had expressed concern over her prolonged absence from social media.
The announcement comes at a significant point in the singer’s career as she prepares for the release of Starrgirl while also making inroads into the film industry.
