The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has said he no longer fully belongs to any political party and now sees himself as a “freelance politician.”
He said this while hosting Peter Obi and other political figures from the South-East in Bauchi on Thursday.
According to the governor, their meeting focused on unity and working together for the good of Nigeria, not on political party matters.
He explained that both major opposition parties are currently facing challenges and are waiting for court decisions that may affect their future.
Mohammed also said politicians are talking to each other about possible alliances ahead of future elections, especially as the 2027 elections approach.
He noted that no political group can succeed without a strong platform, and current political developments could bring opposition groups together and improve their chances in elections.
The governor described Obi’s visit as important, saying it shows efforts to unite different parts of the country and build a better future.
Earlier, Obi said his visit was meant to promote unity and cooperation across Nigeria.
He made it clear that the meeting was not about asking anyone to join a political party, but about working together to improve the country.
The meeting was attended by several political leaders from the South-East, including former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, as well as Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe and Victor Umeh.
This meeting is part of ongoing political discussions, as Bala Mohammed has recently been meeting leaders from different parties.
These talks are seen as part of preparations and possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
