Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the late former Governor of the defunct Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, as a pillar of democracy and a peacebuilder who contributed immensely to Nigeria’s democratic development.
Shettima stated this on Wednesday in Yola, Adamawa State, when he led a Federal Government delegation to condole with the government and people of the state over the death of the elder statesman.
The Vice President conveyed the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the immediate family, the Adamawa State Government and the people of the state, describing Tukur’s death as a great loss to Adamawa and Nigeria.
According to Shettima, President Tinubu urged Nigerians to emulate the legacies of the late statesman, particularly his commitment to peace, democracy and service to humanity.
....: Shettima Leads FG Delegation To Adamawa Over Bamanga Tukur’s Death
The Vice President arrived at the Lamido Aliyu Mustapha International Airport in Yola, where he was received by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, alongside senior government officials and other dignitaries.
From the airport, Shettima and members of the Federal Government delegation proceeded to the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa before visiting the family residence of the deceased to personally convey the government’s condolences.
At the family residence, Shettima recalled Tukur’s contributions to public service and national development, describing him as a man whose influence extended beyond Adamawa State.
Responding on behalf of the family, Auwal Tukur, son of the late elder statesman and Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, appreciated the Federal Government for the visit and support at a difficult time for the family.
The condolence visit further highlighted the national significance of Bamanga Tukur’s decades of involvement in public service, business and politics, as tributes continue to be paid to the late elder statesman.
