Bandits: They Maybe wearing turbans, People in the desert who Aren’t Muslims also wear turbans—Akanbi

According to a report by Punch News on Sunday, July 12, 2026, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, criticized the growing trend of describing bandits as Muslims simply because of their appearance or names. The traditional ruler argued that criminal acts should never be used as a basis for assigning a religious identity to those responsible, insisting that Islam should not be blamed for the activities of bandits.

The monarch made his position known in a statement released on Saturday through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Alli.
