The governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Congress (PDP). Mohammed announced his decision to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) during a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday.
During the meeting, the Bauchi governor was presented with an APM membership card, constitution, and flag.
The Bauchi governor said the APM presents itself as a viable platform without legal battles for himself and his supporters to continue their service to the people.
Mohammed appreciated the PDP for providing the platform for him to serve the people.
“At this point, I wish to acknowledge and appreciate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the important role it has played in our collective political journey,” he said.
“It has been a platform through which we have served, grown, and contributed meaningfully to the development of our state and dear nation.
“We remain grateful for this history and opportunity.
“After extensive and wide consultations, we have taken a firm and strategic decision to join APM.”
The Bauchi governor’s official declaration put an end to speculations on his political future following the leadership crisis in the PDP.
There were speculations that Mohammed will join either the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or All Progressives Congress (APC).
On April 18, the PDP Bauchi state chapter announced that it had ended talks with the APC over possible defections after the proposed power-sharing formula was not agreed on.
Sama’ila Burga, Bauchi PDP chairman, had said the party and Bauchi governor were considering other political options.
