Artiste manager and entertainment analyst Nana Poku Ashis has revealed the financial difficulties many Ghanaian celebrities face, especially musicians, after the busy December and January performance season.
Speaking on Okay FM on Wednesday, July 16, 2026, Ashis said many artistes depend heavily on event performances, which often leave them without income for several months of the year.
“It is not easy. You can do shows in December and January and get some cash. But you may not be able to get any performance gigs until August. And that is their only source of income,” he said.
Ashis, who has worked with several Ghanaian entertainers, questioned how artistes are expected to survive during periods when they receive no performance bookings.
“How then do you survive from January to August? Nobody is calling you. No performance gigs? What are you going to do?” he asked.
He explained that the entertainment industry’s seasonal nature creates financial pressure for many musicians who rely mainly on stage performances for income.
Ashis also appealed to the public to show more understanding towards celebrities instead of quickly judging their financial choices and lifestyles.
“Our celebrities in this country go through a lot. We should cut them some slack,” he said.
