The Benue State Police Command has condemned the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Ardo Rabo Mohammed, and his associate, Yakubu Isa, describing the attack as a senseless act capable of undermining ongoing peace efforts.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, expressed sadness over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
According to the police, the victims were attacked by unidentified gunmen while returning from a security meeting along the Okwudu-Ogoli Road in Otukpo Local Government Area.
Nwadiogbu said the command had launched a full-scale investigation into the killings and deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down those responsible.
“The command will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that the culprits are arrested and prosecuted,” the commissioner said.
He appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands and refrain from spreading unverified information that could heighten tensions.
The police commissioner also urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or use the command’s emergency communication channels.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that security agencies would continue working with relevant stakeholders to ensure those behind the attack are brought to justice.
