Angry residents of Ntonso in the Afigya Kwabre East District have exhumed the body of Eric Kwabena Antwi, popularly known as Eric Duku, refusing to allow his burial in their community after learning he was allegedly linked to the killing of Andrews Kwame Amankwah, father-in-law of GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi.
Eric Duku, husband of Ghanaian actress Patricia, died during a confrontation with Ghana Police officers after being identified as the prime suspect in Amankwah’s murder.
He had reportedly been on law enforcement’s radar prior to the incident, with authorities linking him and his associates to a string of armed robberies.
When his family brought his body to the Ntonso community cemetery for burial, residents intervened to stop the interment before ultimately exhuming the remains after the burial had proceeded.
Following the incident, youth in the community have begun guarding the cemetery day and night, saying they will no longer permit burials of individuals they do not consider natives or residents without proper community authorization.
The Unit Committee Chairman for Ntonso, Shadrack Addai, has expressed support for the youth’s actions, stating the community would continue opposing unauthorized burials at the site.
