BREAKING: Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior after poor run of form

Chelsea have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior following a sustained run of poor results, the club confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday.

The decision ends Rosenior’s short spell in charge after performances “fell below the necessary standards,” with the club still chasing European qualification and FA Cup success.

Club statement confirms decision

Chelsea said the move was not taken lightly but was driven by declining results during a critical phase of the season.

“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season,” the statement read.

The club also expressed appreciation for Rosenior’s conduct during his tenure, adding: “Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.”

Interim plan in place

Assistant coach Calum McFarlane has been appointed interim head coach until the end of the campaign, supported by the existing backroom staff.

Chelsea emphasized that immediate focus remains on securing a European place and progressing in the FA Cup, while a broader review of the managerial position is underway.

“As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment,” the statement added.

Context behind the exit

Rosenior’s departure follows a damaging sequence of results that left Chelsea struggling to maintain consistency in the Premier League.

Despite initial backing from the club hierarchy, internal confidence appears to have eroded amid mounting pressure from supporters and underwhelming performances on the pitch.
