The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has said he ended the half-salary policy for civil servants immediately after he was appointed Commissioner for Finance by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
AMBO made the remark yesterday during a visit to the palace of the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi, as his campaign train reached Ijesa South Federal Constituency, where he sought the monarch’s royal blessings ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking at the palace, Oyebamiji traced his public service journey, saying his appointment as Commissioner for Finance came after years of successful service in both the banking sector and the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL).
He noted that he spent 30 years in the banking industry, rising to the position of General Manager with an unblemished record before former Governor Aregbesola persuaded him to leave the private sector to head OSICOL.
“I worked in the banking sector for 30 years, rising to the position of General Manager. Throughout my career, my record remained clean. I was never issued a single query or invited by the police until I retired from the sector,” he said.
He explained that he revitalised OSICOL after taking over the company, which he described as moribund, adding that under his leadership the firm acquired 32 four-bedroom flats in Guzape, Abuja, additional properties in Ikoyi, Lagos, and established one of the biggest gas stations in Osun State without borrowing funds.

The APC candidate recalled that during the economic downturn that affected many states, he served on a committee constituted by the Aregbesola administration, alongside labour leader Comrade Hassan Sunmonu and other stakeholders, to develop strategies for workers’ welfare.
Responding, the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi, offered prayers for Oyebamiji, asking God to grant him wisdom and strength as he pursues his governorship ambition.
The revered monarch also prayed that AMBO’s aspiration would come to fruition and urged him to remain committed to fairness, good governance and the overall development of Osun State if elected governor.
He said, “Oyetola spent millions to support my emergence. I’ve been enjoying support from the APC since then. He was able to extract from the president for the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ilesa road, and he read it on the day of the coronation. Within two months, the work started.
