He explained that Israel’s military activity against Hezbollah in Lebanon is closely tied to the larger conflict between the US and Iran.
While a fragile agreement exists requiring Israel to halt its invasion of Lebanon, Brooks said Iran faces no similar obligation to restrain Hezbollah, creating an uneven arrangement that favors continued Israeli military freedom.
In his words, Doug Brooks said, “in the meantime pretty much Israel does not real keen to see an end to this conflict.
“They’re quite happy to see a destabilized Iran or a weakened Iran. So they can pretty much at any point, you know, just do another attack into Lebanon and attack the Hezbollah in in different parts in Beirut, wherever,” he said.
Brooks added that this pattern allows Israel to continue military action whenever it chooses, since the broader agreement gives Iran grounds to claim the US is violating its commitments, even if Israel and Iran are not formally bound by identical terms.
He described the underlying memorandum of understanding as a fragile document overall, noting that it has not stopped fighting completely between any of the parties involved, including Israel, Hezbollah, and Iran.
