According to a report by the Times of Israel on Wednesday July 1, 2026, the Israeli military said it carried out an airstrike in southern Gaza on Tuesday that killed a Hamas commander it described as a direct threat to troops operating in the territory.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, the target was Adel Jihad Mohammad Asfour, identified as a platoon commander within Hamas’s military wing.
The military said Asfour had been involved in attacks against Israeli forces throughout the war and remained active in planning operations.
